Devils Tower Prairie Dog
Counted Cross Stitch Kit

With a genus name from the Greek meaning "dog mouse," the Black-tailed Prairie Dog is among the most gregarious and vocal of mammals as it lives in huge "dog towns" on the shortgrass prairie. Weighing two to four pounds (900 to 1400 g) and measuring about 15 inches (38 cm) long, this diurnal creature is brown on top and whitish below, and may be easily distinguished by its black-tipped tail. It rarely wanders far from the safety of its raised burrow, and often sits atop it on its haunches, looking for danger. The Black-tailed Prairie Dog has a short gestation period and bears a litter of four to five pups every year, who leave to fend for themselves at 10 weeks and are full-grown at six months. Its lifespan is relatively short, about seven to eight years.

Finished size: 5 ½" by 5 ½" on 14 count Charles Craft fabric. Kit includes Charles Craft material, DMC floss, needle, chart, instructions, and color photograph of finished project. Designed by Barbara Bangser for The Posy Collection.
