Merium Patrick Sampler
Counted Cross Stitch Kit
Merium Patrick's sampler is a form typical of Shaker schoolgirl needlework. It is plain and unadorned, quite a contrast to the elegant pictorial embroidery practiced in the world. Samplers were part of a young woman's instruction, even in Shaker communities. The simple lettering practiced on Shaker samplers was also used to mark linen, bedding, and clothing for the community. Merium Patrick (1835-1910), Enfield, Connecticut. 1857 sampler in linen, silk, cotton. The original sampler is in the collection of Hancock Shaker Village, Pittsfield, Massachusetts. |
Finished size 5½" by 5¼" on 18 count Charles Craft fabric. Kit includes material, DMC floss, needle, instructions, and color photograph of finished project. Designed by Barbara Bangser for The Posy Collection.
